For PPC’s rebrand launch campaign, our studio was tasked with creating a captivating animated character. The challenge was to highlight the dog’s perfect pet qualities in a visually engaging and emotionally resonant way. Through meticulous planning in pre-production and sustained effort in post-production, we managed to bring the Perfect Pup to life in about 10 days for a campaign that delighted audiences and exceeded client expectations.

Upon receiving the live-action plates, we immediately started prepping the scenes by performing tasks such as 3D tracking all the cameras, rotoscoping, and doing all necessary paint and clean-ups. Concurrently, our animator began refining the dog’s animation. After completing the animation, we developed a procedural grass system to ensure realistic interactions between the grass and the dog’s feet.
With all animations and object interactions completed, we moved on to rendering the final shots. We used 360 HDRI domes captured by our VFX Supervisor on the day of the shoot, crucial data that ensured our CG character had all the realistic reflections and lighting present on location. Finally, after obtaining all the render passes, we comp'ed everything back onto the live-action plates, achieving seamless integration.
After the initial creative briefings, we immediately started crafting the perfect robotic dog that needed to be cute, playful, and adorable. Once the best version was approved by the creatives, we began refining the model’s details and applying realistic shading by creating detailed texture maps (bump, normal, specular) for added realism. Simultaneously, we developed a versatile rig for the robot dog to support a wide range of movements and expressions, continuously testing and refining the rig for smooth animation. With every iteration, we improved the animatic by refining the timing, pacing, and overall flow of the animation.
